The 1301 is a much more modern design (especially the Mod 2) and in some aspects beats the M4 in terms of quality of life features and ergonomics (larger bolt release, larger magazine from the factory, better trigger, lighter, faster cycling from a more refined gas system, etc.) that do give it a legitimate leg up over the M4. 4.
