The porting they did on the base heads looks a lot like Paul Kane's photos above. (Good info on Paul's website BTW).Just as Dan said the D3VE's are closed chamber heads. The D2's are open chamber and yes those are prone to detonation (the D2's only). D3's are really close-port wise-to the D0VE's but obviously the D3's have bolt-down rockers and bigger chambers. The E7's have TINY ports and-well-the only intake that fits them is the EFI intake (fuelie's).

The engine now has D3VE heads and is probably in the range of 7.5:1--8.0:1 compression. I figure losing almost 20cc in the combustion chamber should maybe bump compression into the 9.0:1+ range. The D3VE's chamber CC is very close to that of the D2VE's chamber (keeps compresison ratio down), but the shape makes for both a better mixture motion and a shorter flame travel. Stuff like that. I have of course a 460 with 514 kit yielding a 520 ci. w/ flat top pistons. I'm using DOVE heads from a 69' slightly milled, oversized valves, 1.7 rockers, full roller cam. After porting, the intakes measured approx. 1.485 x 2.900. As I stated before, time only permitted one attempt to raise port velocity and that was filling the bottom of the port with .700 of modeling clay. The resulting port measured 1.485 x 2.200.
