There are lots of folks who have leaky petcocks but they are able to fix them readily and inexpensively with a rebuild kit. For gas to end up in the engine oil, two things need to fail. First, the petcock must fail and let fuel into the carb when the bike is shut off. Second, the carb float valve must fail.

I use the Valvoline 4T 10-40 full synthetic in my 2007 1300s. I have been a Valvoline oil fan for over 40 years in my cars. For the bikes I've tried Honda branded oil, Castrol, etc. and wasn't happy with the engine sounds after 2K miles. VTX's Do require a higher idle than a HD. You don't want an X to sound like a HD. If the idle is not high enough on the VTX it can do damage due to not getting the oil ...Since you now have 3,000 miles on your bike, you can now move to full synthetic oils. The synthetic oil will decrease the 1st gear clunk, make all the gears smoother, lubricate the engine parts better and extend the oil change interval. With full synthetics, you can safely change your oil at 5,000 miles and more.There is no filter specific for synthetic oil. There are, however, filters with better filtering media vs. paper found in most filters. Mobil 1 M1-110 is one of them. Bosch 3323 is another. Both filters are made by Champion Labs and have the new media. Both are fine for the 1300.
