Good Morning, After owning a M1 for many years I purchased a Chiappa Firearms M122 .The serial number starts with a 6 and ends with a 5 with space between the numbers with two struck lines between the numbers. Interesting, but maybe not in a good way. Is that the remnant of another number under the 6? It appears to me to be a spot of original finish. Hi from Pittsburgh, PA. I bought an Inland M1 for just over $400 last week. It shoots fine but the fun is in learning more about the rifle. The serial number on the receiver says 210287 and it seems to be from 1942 but the stock is from Bianchi circa 1960 (with thanks to Johnny Rotten for the lead).

I did some looking and it seems the case and the M8 cleaning rod are not inclusive to the M1 carbine. Here is a 1944 marked case I have. Marked P.M.&S.CO 1944. No markings on the aluminum T handle. Here is a case marked Fungus Proofed - Type 1. J C (or G) BIRCK CLNG CO Inc_1945. The T handle is marked C & S Tool Co.
