This guide is for 14.X versions and below; for the 15.X version see My guide to "There is no spoon" (15.X version). After I got this achievement (beat the game in under 8 hours), I looked around and was a bit surprised that I couldn't find an in-depth guide to getting it. (Aside from YouTube tutorials, but personally I hate those.)

Handcraft: there should be a minute spend not crafting useful stuff. Always run arround and rebalance stuff in your buffer chests and insert when lines run short. This is the key to avoiding complicated bus designs and gives you a feel for what you are short off. There should be no smelter or circuit assembler idling, ever. I tried the island at 75% a couple of times but didn't like it. Iron and copper at maximum settings, coal and stone at 300% since you don't need those that much and maximize them would interfere with iron and copper. Uranium disabled. (Spoon-1, Spoon-2, etc.) at regular time intervals so you can backtrack if things go sideways. Huge starting area (I didn't realize this), rich large resources. I also prefer a desert starting area. Chopping trees costs time. But the settings described are no longer there, some of it instead replaced by slider bars for ore "richness" / "size". This makes me wonder what else has changed. There's also the introduction of queu'ing resources in 17.
