Generally speaking, when the sensor is in use (such as opening a door) it will try to communicate back to the Base Station. This is why you may see it become responsive again and wake up during that time. In most cases, the issue is the result of low batteries in the sensors, or the sensors being just slightly too far away from the Base Station.

The motion sensor claims to detect motion within 30 feet, but in all my test runs, the motion sensor will not detect anything until I am about 10 - 12 feet away from it. Sensors are all on the same floor, same building. Base station has direct line of sight to two of the three sensors, but all three randomly report they are not responding.
