I have been experiencing that same problem with my 2009 "certified" used Toyota Rav4. The starter, battery and alternator check out fine. The spark plugs, distributor, cap, rotor, wires, and coil are all new and work when it starts cold.Sequence, to follow, re-insert Traction battery disconnect, before opening drivers door, and starting car, then got some messages after startup, "Hybrid Fault, see your dealer" . It provides the timing for the spark ignition and these when starting to fail will cause the symptoms described. It is a $35 part for most cars and takes very little time to replace.
