If you're going for thematic, i would throw aru into the pit. Liches are all about sacrifice. I sacrificed 2 companions in my playthrough and killed every possible person i could. Thematically of course. While ascension is a path to power, I'm unsure if a lich would be interested in it, especially considering some of the prerequisites.
